The Long An Provincial People’s Committee has just approved the task of planning the Tan My New Urban Area in Tan My commune, Duc Hoa district, at a scale of 1/2000. The Mekong Delta province’s new urban area covers more than 930 ha and targets a population of 80,000-99,000. It will play an important role in linking Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta provinces and in the distribution of the urban population between the province and Ho Chi Minh City.

Two new industrial parks in the Mekong Delta’s Long An province have been approved by Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh, on a total area of nearly 720 ha and with total investment of nearly VND8.3 trillion ($360.91 million). They are expected to help the province increase its competitiveness and attract FDI. Long An currently has 28 industrial parks and 32 industrial clusters.

The Mekong Delta’s Long An province will recover nearly 4,000 ha of land in the near future to implement a number of projects. The total State budget allocated for site compensation and clearance is VND891 billion ($39.13 million).

Nearly 38 ha of agricultural land in Can Giuoc district in the Mekong Delta’s Long An province has been converted into non-agricultural land for the Long Phung industrial cluster project. The province has converted more than 211 ha of agricultural land into non-agricultural land since the beginning of this year.

The Mekong Delta’s Long An province is planning to set up six logistics centers in order to meet export and import needs and improve the competitiveness of local businesses. Two centers are already in operation, in Thanh Phu commune, Ben Luc district, and at the Long An International Port in Can Giuoc district.
